Today is November 1, which marks the start of Rotary Foundation Month.

Rotary has always been more than a collection of weekly meetings or service projects. It's a movement—a global commitment to creating meaningful, lasting change. That kind of change doesn’t happen without vision, and it certainly doesn’t happen without funding. The Rotary Foundation was born out of that recognition: that the good we want to do in the world must be backed by resources and trust.

Think about this: for over a century, people from vastly different walks of life have put their confidence—and their contributions—into a single shared fund. Why? Because they believe that together, we are better stewards of hope, health, education, and peace than any of us could be alone.

Take polio, for example. A disease that once paralyzed hundreds of thousands each year now lingers only in the shadows, and that’s largely because Rotarians stayed the course, funding vaccines, training health workers, and reaching into the world’s most remote corners. That’s the Rotary Foundation in action—not just writing checks, but writing new chapters in the story of humanity.

And this is just one area. Water, sanitation, literacy, peacebuilding, economic development—the Foundation stands quietly behind them all, turning dreams into projects and projects into results.

So as Foundation Month begins, it’s a good time to reflect: What does generosity look like in your life? Where does your giving go, and what legacy does it leave? The Rotary Foundation isn’t asking for charity—it’s inviting you to be part of something enduring.

Let’s move forward with integrity, purpose, and compassion.
