On February 6, 2026, the world observes the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)—a day dedicated to raising awareness and taking action against this human rights violation.
Female Genital Mutilation affects over 200 million girls and women worldwide, causing lifelong physical and psychological harm. It is rooted in harmful traditions, gender inequality, and misinformation. Yet, change is possible. With education, advocacy, and community engagement, we can work toward eliminating FGM within a generation.
Rotary’s Role in Protecting Girls' Rights
As Rotarians, we believe in dignity, equality, and opportunity for all. Our work in maternal and child health, education, and women’s empowerment aligns directly with efforts to end FGM. Through partnerships with grassroots organizations and global campaigns, we can:
