Tolerance Starts Small, But It Matters Big
The world’s gotten a bit noisy lately. A little more quick to judge. A little less patient. That’s why International Day for Tolerance matters so much.
Tolerance isn’t about agreeing with everyone or pretending we don’t have our own beliefs. It’s about how we treat folks who see things differently. Do we still listen? Still shake their hand? Still sit down at the same table and share a story, a coffee, a moment of understanding?
Rotary has taught us something simple over the years: You don’t have to match someone’s opinion to respect their dignity. Service, kindness, and progress—they all start with how we treat one another, especially when it’s not easy.
Whether it's in your club, your workplace, or your own home, tolerance shows up in the little things. In the tone we take. The jokes we let slide or speak up about. The folks we invite in—or leave out.
Today’s a reminder to take a deep breath, listen more than we speak, and remember that decency isn’t weakness. It’s strength. And it’s how real change gets built, one person at a time.
