On May 28th, we observe Menstrual Hygiene Day—a global effort to break taboos, raise awareness, and ensure that no girl or woman is held back because of her period. In Rotary, where dignity, health, and opportunity are part of our core commitments, this day is especially meaningful.

Around the world, millions of girls miss school, women skip work, and individuals suffer in silence—all because of inadequate access to menstrual products, sanitation, and education. But this isn’t just a health issue—it’s a matter of human rights and gender equity.

Rotarians understand that true service addresses root causes. That’s why clubs across the globe have supported initiatives ranging from distributing reusable pads and improving washroom facilities, to holding workshops that educate both genders on menstrual health. These efforts aren’t just about hygiene—they’re about empowerment, equality, and eradicating shame.

This work aligns perfectly with Rotary’s focus areas: supporting education, growing local economies, and promoting maternal and child health. When we help girls stay in school and women maintain dignity in the workplace, we are building more resilient communities and more inclusive futures.

Let us be unafraid to speak up. To engage with uncomfortable truths. To challenge stigma with compassion. This Menstrual Hygiene Day, let’s amplify the conversation and support sustainable solutions that uplift and empower.

Rotary is not just a network of professionals—it’s a community of change-makers. Let’s prove it where it matters most.
