On December 17, 1945, the Rotary community lost a pioneer: Silvester Schiele, the first president of the Rotary Club of Chicago and one of Rotary’s founding members. Schiele was not just a visionary leader; he was a living example of Rotary’s ideals of fellowship and service.

As a coal dealer by profession, Schiele’s practicality and dedication helped shape Rotary’s early mission. He believed in connecting people from different walks of life to foster friendship and create meaningful change—a vision that continues to guide Rotary today.

His legacy reminds us of the power of leadership rooted in humility, service, and collaboration. As Rotarians, we honor his memory by carrying forward the spirit of Service Above Self in everything we do.

🕊️ Take a moment today to reflect on how you can uphold the values of our founders and create a lasting impact in your own community.
